This is lots of fun :) I like how you blended the lighting through it. The only thing that spoils it from being really 100% is that things show through things... like the planet showing through the ship, and the stars showing through the ship and the top of the building. That takes away from the "reality" of the scene (even though it's not a real scene :)).

Otherwise again, nice work! And good luck :)

Thanks! :) I appreciate the crits...and agree! I'm new to photomanips and I'm finding it quite frustrating at times, especially how the blend modes and the placement/order of layers affect other layers. I fiddled with that sky, the building and the spaceship for ages and couldn't get it all to look how I wanted it to. In the end, I had to go with what you see here because some of the other modes I tried made certain elements look downright horrible or too solid and "pasted" on.

If you use the eyedrop tool to pick out the color of the sky, you could do a new layer and just paint like... a backdrop behind the ship and the building over were the stars show through, if you do it delicately and play with the opacity you should be able to "mask" the stars and make it look like the ship & building are solid without taking away from the unity of the peice.

I'm still a photoshop newbie myself :) So I can feel your frustration!!! Please keep it up though, do lots of tutorials experimenting with effects etc... but most of all, have fun!

Oh, what a good idea! I'll definitely give that a try next time. Thanks! :)

I think "Santa" will be giving me Photoshop this Christmas so I've been collecting lots of resources (brushes, etc.) in anticipation of that...and lots of tutorials as well! :P
