Bloodforge Maw by Neyjour Bloodforge Maw by Neyjour

Bloodforge Maw © Christina Roberts (Neyjour) 2013

A special type of ore is being mined, brought to the Bloodforge Maw (at the heart of the mountain), and fed into the fiery pit. But why?

A few thoughts I had:
1) The ore fuels a magical barrier/shield that protects the mountain, and possibly the surrounding land as well. It's the only thing keeping the people within safe from a malevolent force that threatens to overrun them.
2) An ancient, colossal fire dragon protects the people of this land, but his lair inside the mountain must be continually heated. If it cools too much, he slips back into hibernation and the people lose their protection.
3) The mountain is located in a frozen wasteland, and the pit (connected to a vast warren of vents and tunnels) is the main heat and power source for the inhabitants of this subterranean city.

If you'd like to play on these, the zip download contains the full-rez versions (2060x2560), with and without grid.
Grid squares = 100x100 pix

My D & D group used this a few weeks ago. One of the players (who is also a DM) wanted to use it for his group so I sent him a link.

Everyone agreed that it was an absolutely exquisite map and some didn't believe that I got it somewhere else other than Dungeon Magazine. It's truly breath-taking!

Thank you ever so much for posting this. It was the highlight (and finale) to an Underdark adventure.

Jordan

P.S.

One of the characters almost fell into the lava pit.
