If you don't like WoW, you'll probably find AION really lacking. WoW's world is huge, packed with content, and has fun PvP/battlegrounds...whereas AION is severely lacking in those areas. But, AION has superior graphics, character creation, and being able to fly is pretty cool. And for smaller scale PvP (instead of the Abyss), you can go rifting to the opposing side, or look for the enemy in your own territory.
I don't really know what to tell you...the only way you'll know if you're going to like it or not is to give it a try. If you like to group and play with guild members, you might not find it as frustrating as I do. I'm pretty much a solo player (except when I group with my husband) and I've been loving it so far, but now that I've reached level 30 I've kinda run into a wall. Everything is starting to become hideously expensive, I can't do any of the instances, and most of the quests are almost impossible to solo now. But if you like grouping or playing with guild mates, none of that should be an issue.

Oh, and don't forget the awesome clawed feet! Although, only the males get to show those off. The females have theirs hidden in normal/human looking shoes.
